Saying thanks the LRTweetup Way

thumbs_up Well we are a short 2 days away from our June LRTweetup at the Capital Hotel Bar & Grill and I want to invite you to help LRTweetup use our collective voice to say thank you to the venues that host our events.

We are encouraging our community to use recommendation sites like UrbanSpoon and Yelp to review and rate our hosts. LRTweetup is a collection of some of the most wired citizens in Central Arkansas and we could do a great service by reviewing and publicizing the venues we visit. It’s just a small way to show our gratitude.

Both sites are free to join and it only takes a moment to rate and review a restaurant. I’m confident many of you already use these sites but if not you’ll quickly find they are an excellent way to discover great places to dine. If you are an iPhone user make sure and download your preferred app so that you can upload photos and reviews from the event itself.

Please don't hate me for saying this, but I'm not so sure that this was a necessary post.

As the announcements of all the lrtweetup perks began flowing early in the week, I thought “Genius! What a way to influence the influencers.” (Seriously, I even said it out loud on more than one occasion)

The mentions/recommendations would come naturally. Sure, there would be a small feeling of being paid-off for the endorsements that would come, but not much.

So now that this is out there, I'm going to feel a little more like a sellout when I do throw a little Whuffie to The Capitol Hotel Bar & Grill. If the venue and the event merely half-way meets my expectations, I'll gush away – I just wish that I wasn't asked to do so.

(Can I still get the free valet parking, even though I whined about the party?)

    Thanks for your thoughts.

    1) I felt it was necessary because many people simply don't use Urbanspoon or Yelp. Many folks just wouldn't consider natural and we wanted to bring it to the communities attention.

    2) I took great care in wording the statement to only encourage people to review the venue. Specifically I quote, “We are encouraging our community to use recommendation sites like UrbanSpoon and Yelp to review and rate our hosts. LRTweetup is a collection of some of the most wired citizens in Central Arkansas and we could do a great service by reviewing and publicizing the venues we visit”.

We would never encourage people to write a dishonest post just to pad the ratings. I fully expect people to write reviews that accurately reflect their experience and service. If it is great, say so, if not… say so. The power of all recommendation platforms lies in the integrity of the reviewers.

I truly apologize (esp since you thought we've been doing an ok job so far). I never intended to make anyone feel like a sell out.

We had the best intentions. Our apologies.

PS: We will take the valet parking under advisement.

@tsudo, you are salt. I can be a hyper-sensitive jerk at times, and I'm afraid that I let that side show via my above comment.

PS: I wouldn't say that you are doing an ok job so far, I would say that you are doing an outstanding job!

Not at all my friend. I learned from your comment and I'm grateful that you wrote it. It's our collective mind that makes the community powerful. I always appreciate your input and I'll be more careful in the future.

PS: you're too kind. Valet parking granted. ;)
