Reach Out and Read

Join us for our annual giving back event! Last year, we raised money for a great cause that is near and dear to a lot of us – reading!

This year, we’re continuing our efforts. Reach Out & Read is a statewide nonprofit that prepares Arkansas’ youngest children to succeed in school by partnering with doctors to prescribe books and encourage families to read together.

April’s #LRTweetup will benefit Reach Out & Read. We’re asking you to come and enjoy some fabulous wine and appetizer specials at Ferneau and support a great cause. We’ll be in the party room and have the joint to ourselves, so there will be plenty of room to mingle, network and catch up with new and old friends.

The cost is $10 and a new or gently used children’s book. Ferneau will have some amazing wines provided by Natural State Distributing at an amazing price, and Chef Donnie is planning some equally amazing small plates to go along with those.

Attendees can pay at the door or order your ticket online here. Food and beverages will be additional, but cheap! :)

We hope to see you at Ferneau on April 21! Let’s make sure Arkansas’ kids begin a love of reading early!

In the hustle of our everyday lives it’s easy to ignore the parts of this world that don’t directly affect us. We juggle roles and responsibilities and the days turn into a blur until we see something that brings us to a jarring halt.

Like this,

All the issues in my life seem trivial when I see such a simple and desperate need.

Our LRtweetup community is full of people that give in hundreds of different ways and your tweets have become a window into a world outside of my own, even in my own backyard and this yard has people hurting, homeless and cold. So while we usually don’t do tweetups during the holidays but we couldn’t stand by without trying to help.

Tune In, Take Action & Rock Out

Next Wed, Dec 15 is your chance to make a difference and hear some awesome music. My friends @MonkhouseMusic are playing a concert at Whitewater Tavern and donating all the proceeds to @AaronBReddin’s work at the St. Francis House.

161899_170631396291453_6336076_nExpect to hear everything from Muscle Shoals to Memphis in their melting pot of blues, gospel, and southern rock. You don’t want to miss this.

There is a $2 cover but LRtweetup is asking you to donate $5.  If you have coats and blankets please bring those as well. If you’d like larger donations will be gladly accepted.

Our goal $500. Surely we can find 100 people willing to donate $5.

Even if you can’t come to the show we’ll get online donations setup. Our challenge to you. Donate $5 and challenge 1 other friend to donate as well. All proceeds will go to the St. Francis house work.

Great music and the opportunity to share a little gift of hope. Sounds like Christmas already.

Let’s do this folks!

PS: Consider clicking “Like” below to become a fan of Monkhouse. It’s a great way to show our gratitude and your ears will thank you.

Blue birds at the Red Door

It’s safe to say that our tweetups have become a tour of Little Rock’s best restaurants and bars and this Thursday builds on this tradition as we visit the brand new Red Door Restaurant.

The Red Door is Mark Abernathy’s latest restaurant. Mark’s cuisine has been a staple of Little Rock dining with restaurants like Loca Luna, Bene Vita, and Juanita’s and now we get to enjoy his take on modern Southern Cuisine.

We’ll be enjoying appetizers of Red Door (Blue Mesa) cheese dip and homemade tri-color chips as well as Pepperoni and Tuscan Veggie appetizer pizzas. The Red Door is also continuing another #LRtweetup tradition and introducing the “Tweet-Tini”.

A “Tweet-tini” as described by Mark,

more civilized version of a long island Iced Tea with Fresh Brewed Iced Tea, Citrus Vodka, Simple Syrup and Fresh Lemon

What more could you ask?

Throw in a mouthwatering menu with everything from toasted bruschetta to BBQ Shrimp and Grits and a chance to relax with some great friends and it’s easy to see we are starting year number 2 right.

See you Thursday evening.

Please RSVP and don’t forget you can follow @RedDoorLR on Twitter, or visit their website, RedDoorRestaurant.net

Arkansas Business published a masterpiece by media reporter and tweetup regular Sam Eiflling, @SamEifling.

On May 18, the loose band of Twitter users who have made Little Rock Tweetups a monthly rite of beery canoodling are getting together at Juanita’s Cafe & Bar in Little Rock for the Little Rock Tweeties – an awards night to recognize the most clever and creative among this digital tribe…

…The notion of handing out awards for tweeting makes you wonder just how interesting some people find their navels. But the entire tone of the enterprise has been tongue-in-cheek, and a nod to the bona fide human connections that the Tweetup crowd seems to have stumbled onto while trying to network.

Our friend and co-founder Lance Turner, @LT, wrote a great post that recalled some of the highlights from the past year.

This whole #LRTweetup enterprise was founded nearly on a lark. And you can read much more about the history of the event (in which I played a small role), plus other stories from the #LRTweetup community, right here from the people who lived it. Throughout the year, this ecosystem of 140-character oversharers has raised money for nonprofits, shared many thousands of MBs of information and helped cultivate a stronger, more connected business community. And this is just the start.
