Imagine…

What’s so important about getting involved with Reach out and Read Arkansas?

Imagine if you couldn’t read this sentence.

Imagine a family never having money for frivolous things like books when they are trying to feed little mouths.

In fact you don’t have to imagine. Here are the facts:

-In Arkansas 56% of adults read at a 4th grade level.

-50% of our children are not prepared for kindergarten.

Imagine you can do something to change this sobering reality. You can!

You can join us in supporting Reach out and Read Arkansas. ror.AR.186

Reach Out and Read Arkansas (RORA) is on the front lines fighting early childhood illiteracy. RORA works with pediatricians to inform parents of the importance of reading and provides books to these families.

RORA is doing a great job but they need your help.

One of the ways you can join the cause is to attend the first annual LRTweetup Twestival and support Reach out and Read Arkansas. $10 bucks and book (at least 1) gets you in the door.

The event will be held Thursday Sept 10, starting at 5:30P at the Clinton Presidential Library.

You can purchase tickets online and get all the details at LRTweetup.com/twestival

What is the perfect way to let new contacts and friends know about your presence on Twitter in addition to your contact info?

Minicards

These new Minicards have really become prominent in the past few months showing up everywhere from tweetups to blogging conferences and we are proud to announce that you can get your very own Minicard from a local partner and LRTweetup community member.

Paul Strack (@pstrack) of CustomXM.com has been hard at work to bring these cards to market and we are thrilled to announce that he is offering a very special deal through LRTweetup.

The first 50 orders of Mini Profile cards will receive 150 cards for FREE!

That’s right, F-R-E-E.

These Minicards are different, eye-catching, and just plain cool so you don’t want to miss this fantastic deal.

To get your set of 150 free Minicards be one of the first 50 people to visit CustomXM.com/minicards and use the promo code: LRTUP at checkout. (To ensure this promotion benefits our community we will be limiting the code to addresses in Pulaski county and the surrounding counties.)

A huge thank you to Paul and his team at CustomXM for making these available. We can’t wait to see yours at the next LRTweetup on Thursday, Aug 27 at Cajuns.

Making a Difference

LRTweetup is all about community and we want to find ways to make a difference in our local community by getting involved with local charities and non-profits. We’ve already got some ideas on how we might go about this but we want to know which charities are near and dear to your heart. Please take a moment and complete our charity submission form and tell us about your favorite local charity.

You can also share any good ideas about how LRTweetup can get involved and make a difference. We hope to hear from all of you. Help LRTweetup make a difference.

(PS: We are wide open to ideas but we ask you to only submit charities that benefit Central Arkansas in some way and aren’t politically affiliated.)
