Sharing the story of @JimmyWayne & #MeetMeHalfway

Wow, what a tweetup. It’s too late for a full write up but I wanted to share some video and links to Jimmy Wayne and the #MeetMeHalfway awareness campaign.

Jimmy Wayne is a country music recording artist that is walking halfway across the United States to raise awareness about homeless teens. Here’s a clip of him sharing his story at tonight’s tweetup.

Find out More:

We were honored to have Jimmy tonight and we think this is a great cause so we want to help spread the word.

Check out Cotton’s great post with some links to music videos and more. While we are in our warm beds he’s sleeping in a tent in the parking lot of the Capitol Hotel. Here’s his video from 10:44P tonight.

Thanks Jimmy, consider #LRtweetup your newest supporters.

A Magnificent Meetup

A little over a month ago there was an idea.

An idea to simply bring people together. To organize a gathering of Central Arkansas Twitterers so we can get to know one another.

Tonight we have seen that idea evolve into most vibrant, interesting, and friendly community of people you’d ever hope to meet. It’s impossible to accurately describe the experience of such brilliant and hilarious people just getting together to enjoy one another’s company. It goes without saying that it is a great place for business networking but LRTweetup is reaching far beyond business, it is the launching pad for friendships and acquaintances. LRTweetup is all about people.

LRTweetup was formed around a communication medium so it’s no surprise that tonight was a voluble amusement park. The discussions ranged from politics and business to jazz hands and white wingtips. Laughing and Learning was the order of the day.

I can summarize the entire tweetup in one word, Wow!

Thank you to the Capital Hotel Bar and Grill (web / @capitalbargrill on Twitter) and Amy B. You all were outstanding hosts. The appetizers were delicious and the service was impeccable. The staff went above and beyond to make us feel welcome and that just helped make this a more memorable event. Thank you very much.

Thanks to Brant Collins, of Station X. Brant spent several hours today getting the nametags formatted and printed. He volunteered in a clutch time and we really appreciate him making that happen. I think the printed nametags helped facilitate people connecting and that is what LRTweetup is all about. Thank you very much Brant.

Finally, Thank you to YOU! To those of you who attended we thank you for taking the time to come out and for making this such a fantastic community.

To those of you who couldn’t come or are just becoming aware of LRTweetup we can’t wait to see you at the next one.

We are just getting started!

@LRTweetup

Saying thanks the LRTweetup Way

thumbs_up Well we are a short 2 days away from our June LRTweetup at the Capital Hotel Bar & Grill and I want to invite you to help LRTweetup use our collective voice to say thank you to the venues that host our events.

We are encouraging our community to use recommendation sites like UrbanSpoon and Yelp to review and rate our hosts. LRTweetup is a collection of some of the most wired citizens in Central Arkansas and we could do a great service by reviewing and publicizing the venues we visit. It’s just a small way to show our gratitude.

Both sites are free to join and it only takes a moment to rate and review a restaurant. I’m confident many of you already use these sites but if not you’ll quickly find they are an excellent way to discover great places to dine. If you are an iPhone user make sure and download your preferred app so that you can upload photos and reviews from the event itself.

Capital Hotel Bar & Grill rolls out red carpet the Red Carpet

080711akp_capitalhotel2518 I’m very pleased to announce that Capital Hotel Bar and Grill is rolling out the red carpet to welcome LRTweetup attendees. Here are some of the extras that they are making available just for us.

The Bar and Grill’s bartender Spencer makes some of the most delicious and creative cocktails you’ve ever encountered and he is debuting a brand new signature martini on Thursday night. The cocktail is a bright blue and is named most appropriately "The BlueBird". I imagine we are the first Twitter meetup group ever to have a martini created in our honor. That is just too cool.

If this wasn’t enough, your tastebuds are in for a real treat because the Capital Bar & Grill will be offering some free, special appetizers for the group. Yes I said free! In addition, the chef is will be preparing a few items that aren’t even offered on the regular menu. This tweetup will definitely be a culinary delight.

And for the Pièce de résistance, Happy hour drink prices will last all evening.

I’d like to offer LRTweetup’s gratitude to the Capital Hotel for hosting our event and going the extra mile to make us feel welcome. As a small token of our thanks may I suggest you sign up for their email list, follow them on Twitter (@capitalbargrill & @capitalhotel), or join their Facebook Group.

Simply put, you’d be crazy not to come to our event and meet some of the most interesting and connected people in Central Arkansas while experiencing Arkansas’ premier hotel, grill, and bar. RSVP today.

Thanks Amy!
